My Journey

Hello, my name is Olya Findley. I am 23 years old, i live in Charlottesville, Virginia and go to school at Radford University and i am junior. I am majoring in fashion merchandising. I am originally from Ukraine, i lived there for fifteen years. When i was fifteen years old i was adopted. When i was six years old, i was taken away from my parents and i was placed in the orphanage in Severodonetsk. I lived in an orphanage for nine years, and my last year at the orphanage a family found me and adopted me. While growing up at the orphanage, i didn’t have many opportunities career wise, so at early age i decided to become a cook. I didn’t love cooking, but it was just something i could do. It’s a horrible feeling to have when you don’t have options. However, i was always been creative, i always had passion for art and design. While i was at the orphanage i had many wonderful experiences, that’s where i made life long friends, they became my family. When i was 14 years old, that was the first time i ever played with makeup. That was the moment when i fell in love with the art of makeup. That moment i decided i will make my passions into my career, i have always dreamed about being able to choose what i wanted to do and what i wanted be, life in America gave me that choice. I was blessed. I have always enjoyed painting on a canvases, but with makeup i was able to create images on my face. I was never the most beautiful girl in the room, makeup allowed me to feel confident, beautiful and creative. “Any woman can look her best if she feels good in her skin. It’s not a question of clothes or makeup. It’s how she sparkles.”

― Sophia Loren. As i grew older, i became more comfortable and confident in myself, however, makeup is still my passion. “The most beautiful makeup of a woman is passion. But cosmetics are easier to buy.”
― Yves Saint Laurent. When i do makeup i feel relaxed, it’s a whole process that requires a step by step process. When i think about it, i have one specific routine i do when i do my makeup which i will show later in my blog. I am also passionate about fashion. To me, fashion is self expression just like makeup. Fashion can make you feel confident and you can be whoever you want to be and make you feel like a different person. “You can have anything you want in life if you dress for it” by Edith Head. I love this quote because it’s true, if you want to be successful you have to dress for success.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
